Pittura preziosa
Opere provenienti da: Fondazione Marignoli di Montecorona, Spoleto; Collezione già Palazzo Valenti, Trevi; Fondazione Camillo Caetani, Roma
II Piano Nobile of Palazzo Collicola will also host Pittura Preziosa, an exhibition dedicated to painting on stone and copper, to curated by Michele Drascek, Duccio K. Marignoli, Simonetta Prosperi Valenti Rodinò. Since the 16th century, great importance has been given to paintings made on surfaces that have intrinsic value in themselves, such as stone
- marbles, alabasters, semiprecious slabs -, copper and glass. And this an eccentric painting of curiosity, often kept in private cabinets, where the object proved marvelous beyond its artistic quality, referred to precisely as precious painting by the curators. This genre, nurtured from a collecting devoted to rarities and dazzling effects, is now attracting the growing interest of scholars who have devoted recent highly successful exhibitions to it.
The exhibition Pittura preziosa therefore offers an opportunity to explore the theme through the display of more than forty works, mostly unpublished, from the collections of the Marignoli Foundation of Montecorona di Spoleto and the ancient Valenti family of Trevi, to which has been added a precious alabaster generously granted by the Camillo Catani Foundation of Rome. The paintings, often small in size, range from the sixteenth to the nineteenth century and offer a fascinating delve into this particular artistic genre through more or less well-known names: from the copper traditionally attributed to Boccaccio Boccaccino to the rare Sigismondo Laire, from the works of the Umbrian Providoni and Refini, to those of the more famous Mastelletta, Cavalier d'Arpino, Lanfranco, Filippo Lauri to the lesser-known Wals and Mosman. Precious Painting will be accompanied from a catalog published by Editoriale Artemide, with contributions by Sante Guido, Duccio K. Marignoli and Simonetta Prosperi Valenti Rodinò, with worksheets to edited by Federico Donnini, Michele Drascek, Duccio K. Marignoli, Elisa Martini, Livia Nocchi, Stefania Petrillo, Simonetta Prosperi Valenti Rodinò, Giovanna Sapori, Vincenzo Stanziola.
