Intervallo
Mostra personale di Flavio Favelli
The rooms of the Piano Nobile, the heart of the building, will host Intervallo, a solo exhibition by Flavio Favelli (Florence, 1967), an artist unanimously recognized as one of the most important on the Italian contemporary scene, thanks in part to his participation to two editions of the Venice Biennale, in 2003 and 2013 (on that occasion invited to to represent the Italian Pavilion). The rooms of the Piano Nobile will be traversed by Favelli's works, which will short-circuit with the furnishings already present in the different rooms: in fact, the artist's practice is based on the use of old discarded furniture, furnishings and decorative elements such as mirrors and frames, along with other materials with a familiar character such as bottles, vases and trays. This galaxy of objects-which retains a relationship with Italian memory and identity, underscoring the tensions between the private space of the home and the public space of the street-is recombined to result in to works that are alienating, recognizable but anything but reassuring.
In addition to works of a more strictly installation and sculptural matrix, Favelli also offers for the occasion a series of vintage postcards in which, through the technique of collage, views of some Umbrian squares are mixed together: the title of the exhibition, curated from Saverio Verini, starts precisely from the suggestion of the famous Rai broadcast - Intervallo, precisely - in which the images from postcard of squares and monuments of the cities of Italy were shown in sequence, accompanied from pieces of classical music, including the famous Toccata in A major composed from Pietro Domenico Paradisi. In the artist's recollection, the images come to merging with each other, generating hybridizations between different urban contexts, albeit united by the recognizable atmosphere of the Italian province. The exhibition can in fact be considered a true retrospective of the artist, who is exhibiting for the first time to Spoleto.
