Il laboratorio del sogno. Simbologia e arte del costume teatrale
On the three weekends of the Spoleto Festival (June 24, July 1, July 8), an exhibition and artistic culture project open to the public for the first time will be opened in the Foyer of the Teatro Nuovo Gian Carlo Menotti, with meetings and actual theatrical tailoring workshops. Guest speakers and visiting costume designers of the project, which includes a comparative exhibition of some important stagings of Claude Debussy's Pelléas et Mélisande, opera inaugural of the Festival, will be some of the biggest names in Italian and international fashion and costume, active in both fields. Thanks to them, the audience and students will be involved in a series of meetings, to which will be followed, upon registration and for a limited number of participants, by a workshop where they will make and give themselves a small accessory created by the guest designers, under the guidance of the premiere theatrical tailors.
The project, devised from Fabiana Giacomotti, costume historian and editor of "Foglio della Moda," the Foglio's fashion culture and industry insert, is part of the path of enhancing the theater crafts undertaken by the Spoleto Festival under the artistic direction of Monique Veaute.
Over the past two years, an impressive work of agnition, restoration and cataloging of the event's heritage of costumes, some three thousand in number, spanning a time span from the early 1960s to the 2000s, has been conducted. The "rediscovered" and largely restored costumes were displayed to several times in a widespread exhibition involving the city's historic palaces, museums and major hotels.
