A play takes us through the words of the Comedy by bringing the text, Dante's endecasyllable, to the stage to show us the meaning of the journey with an interdisciplinary perspective. A concert plays us the music the poet loved and the sounds that surrounded his art. A study conference reveals to us historical, aesthetic and performance aspects for an understanding of the Supreme's literary and musical universe. Theopera-film Inferno, a new creation by composer Lucia Ronchetti directed by Kay Voges and Markus Lobbes, leads us to discover Dante's vision of the afterlife by rereading the first chapter of the Comedy in a new musical theater production. An exhibition recounts the links between Dante and the ancient Duchy of Spoleto, among precious incunabula, illustrated editions of the Comedy and maps from the 16th and 17th centuries. On the seventh centenary of his death, Festival dei Due Mondi pays tribute to the father of language and cantor of our humanity.
"The 'opera of Dante Alighieri, an inescapable reference of our linguistic and cultural identity, still offers itself today, for variety and significance of content and forms of expression, as a nursery of historical, literary, scientific, ethical, historical-political, psychological, and especially artistic reflections. The very numerous and important cultural initiatives that have come to the attention of the Committee for the celebrations of the seven hundredth anniversary of his death testify to the inexhaustible passion and constant interest in the father of the Italian language, who has become from time, and by consensus, a "global author," at the top of every canon of world literature. The performance, concerts, and conference to dedicated to him in the program of the Spoleto 2021 Festival are important because they confirm the enduring relevance of Dante and the ability of his opera to engage and solicit contemporary sensibility and creativity."
