Mostra fotografica in occasione del 10° anniversario del gemellaggio tra Spoleto e Schwetzingen
The cities of Spoleto and Schwetzingen celebrate ten years of twinning with the exhibition "Schwetzingen by Horst Hamann." The photographs on display depict Schwetzingen's famous castle park and other cityscapes.
The cosmopolitan Horst Hamann, while moving with familiarity in the world's metropolises, learned the art of photography in quiet Mannheim, the palatial town where he was born; his images capture romantic and picturesque views with the characteristic monumental slant of his famous "verticals."
The Schwetzingen Palace Gardens, among the most important gardens created in Europe in the 18th century, have from always held a great fascination for the artist, with their architecture and sculptures perfectly integrated into the natural surroundings.
Shining through Hamann's photographs is his personal search for mystical places and enchanted moments, captured both in the castle grounds and in the town of Schwetzingen itself. In some images, deep horizons and vibrant constellations reveal a romantic worldview. In others, well-defined shadows of natural or architectural elements create perfectly harmonious forms that represent the photographer's distinctive stylistic trait.
Horst Hamann has been called a "composition genius" by the New York Times.
Hamann does not build: in his surroundings he perceives the ideal proportions, the ideal perspective angle, and the ideal light conditions. from all of this gives rise to the perfection that distinguishes his photographs, a harmonious interplay between linear forms and their rhythm, capable of capturing light and shadow with extreme precision.
