Synopsis

...a magical atmosphere envelops from days Maiano...from before June 26...the great bulk of the penitentiary citadel is visible to distance...the 40 mt of the penitentiary police barracks are traversed from apparitions...from writings...from lights...from shadows...from colors...

hundreds of people pass through the gates...there is an air of festivity in the garden...the many attendees meet a balloon seller...holy women and holy girls appear...from the windows of Lenci's tower they look out singing and laughing...they open and close the sashes...on the jutting volumes of the tower images flow...the best of worlds... pathetic affections...captivity...

at at 9:15 p.m...the band...to procession

they follow the parade...they all enter the prison...a procession of hundreds of people to that festive music...along the route domesticated animals...beasts...time stands still...

Pasquale tells of the dream Nicholas is in disbelief...when by now...Roberto considers him a father...it is his home...it is his town, his community...his past...his space...he is afraid...after years...loneliness...time...to be continued....miracle to Maiano...

Miracle to Maiano, a 2015 production by the "Sine Nomine" Company, born and active at Casa di Reclusione di Maiano, and led from Giorgio Flamini, is theopera that concludes the triptych opened from Pathetic Affections Affective Captivity and continued with The Best of All Possible Worlds1980-2025.

All three works, written, scripted, and produced by the Prisoners, are strongly, violently, sarcastically, and painfully centered on the prison universe, the stories condensed therein, the fragments of life that preceded the experience, the dreams that accompany it, and the future tensions-usually denied, and consciously experienced as such-that might constitute moments of hope for those living the time of imprisonment.

In the thread of the years, the poetics of the Company and, in particular, of Giorgio Flamini, has become more precise and deepened, perhaps in the direction of an explosion of themes and their possible senses: if Pathetic Affections Affective Captivity was a linear show, consisting of the narration of fragments of life, easily recognizable in their references and meaning, already The Best of Possible Worlds 1980 2025 pushed into utopia and paradox. It is up to to _Miracle to Maiano _to move the viewer forward into the depths of a "miracle" with nightmarish traits, in which even the hope of liberation, of reparation, of palingenesis seems to lose its emotional charge and meaning to gather in the choice of imprisonment experienced as the only possible home and the only viable refuge.

Part of the show consists of the reprise of moments from previous experiences staged by "Sine Nomine," but now fractured and disjointed, messy and dissonant; and of course, much of the references will be more transparent to those who have already experienced the previous shows.

And so, in this game of cross-references, almost all of the Characters, Pasquale, Roberto, Nicola (perhaps their real names?) refer to what has already been "said"; except that the "again-said" does not confirm but rather upsets that already stabilized arrangement of meaning: therefore, those who, earlier, had promoted a kind of "crime strike," establishing a world free of crime, now find themselves to dreaming the same dream: everyone will be free, prison no longer exists. But Pasquale, rehabilitated, compensated and the recipient of "the most heartfelt apologies" for the miscarriage of justice that led him to prison, may want to make a provocative choice.

With this, one would say that Giorgio Flamini, having reached the end of the trilogy, far from proposing a recomposition of the drama, wants to project the viewer into the most confusing of intellectual and sentimental tangles, and to this assumption subdues the most extensive and scenic deployment of theatrical, musical, and visual means, with expressionist references, dominated by the measure of the excessive and transgressive, the sorrowful, even if space is never denied to an impossible cheerfulness.

The show Miracle to Maiano was written, scripted, set design by the artists of the "Sine Nomine" Company, all students attending the Liceo Artistico "Sansi Leonardi Volta" active at the associated Casa di Reclusione site, active under the guidance of Giorgio Flamini, Lecturer of Scenotechnical Design at the same Institute. Teachers Giuliana Bertuccioli, Maria Paola Buono, Sabrina Cardinali, Lucia Mazzuccato and Luciana Santirosi collaborated.

The warmest thanks go to the Director of the House of Reclusion Dr. Luca Sardella, Commandant Marco Piersigilli, the Penitentiary Administration Staff, the Penitentiary Police Corps, the Educators, the Spoleto Probation Office, Probation Magistrate Grazia Manganaro, Probation Magistrate Fabio Gianfilippi and the staff of the Spoleto Probation Court Office: without their contribution none of what has been done would ever have been accomplished and to all of them go the senses of the most absolute gratitude.

Equal thanks to Spoleto's Festival dei 2Mondi and Comune di Spoleto for accepting this product into the 2015 edition of the Festival's playbill, and to the Antonini Foundation and the Cosis Consortium for their financial contribution to the initiative.
