On the occasion of the centenary of Leoncillo Leonardi's birth, Spoleto-his hometown-and the Festival dei 2Mondi, which hosted an unforgettable anthological exhibition of his work in 1969, one year after his sudden death, are promoting, to starting in June 2015 until 2016, a series of events supported by Comune di Spoleto, the Municipality of Campello and the Fondazione Cassa di Risparmio di Spoleto. There are two events in the 58th Festival to remember an extraordinary figure of an artist who, through her works and her diary, offers one of the most acute, original and intense testimonies of 20th-century Italian art.
The meeting brings together art historians, critics, artists and collectors to reconsider the great sculptor'sopera . to Nearly fifty years after the conference organized by the Festival in 1969, to side of an unforgettable anthological exhibition in the same San Nicolò complex, it seems essential to have the witnesses of that time confront the new generations of critics and historians, retracing Leoncillo's artistic itinerary from the first expressionist experiences to the postwar years - inflamed by the controversy between realists and abstractionists - up to the intense season of the Informal. A necessary reinterpretation to confirm Leoncillo's centrality in the history of sculpture not only in Italy and to measure the breadth of his research, the density of a tormented path but rich in courageous developments as well as the ability to move reflections and questions even today. tracks visible of the Artist's presence - four particularly significant sculptures - will mark the spaces and the path of the meeting.
