Canto di Cheoyong
In the picturesque coastal town of Gae-un-po lived a young couple, Cheo-yong and Gaya. Despite their humble circumstances, they found contentment and joy in their simple life, living in harmony with nature. However, their idyllic existence is abruptly interrupted by the evil machinations of Yeokshin, a half-human, half-monster creature. Cheoyong invokes the mysterious power of the songs and dances he has learned from nature itself, using his artistry to save Gaya's life and confront Yeokshin in a dramatic test of strength and skill. In the end, love prevails and Cheoyong and Gaya manage to to preserve their cherished bond even in the face of adversity. This timeless story of love and artistry continues to fascinate and inspire audiences to this day.
The ancient story of Cheorong revolves around to a man named Cheoyong, who was believed to be the son of a dragon king. Passed down through the centuries, this story has inspired Korean artists to to create dances and music based on it. In the 1950s, South Korean playwright Yoo Chi-jin adapted this story inopera "Song of Cheoyong."
