The Spoleto State Archives Section continues its research into the origins of Festival dei Due Mondi. Through a conference, a book, and an exhibition, extraordinary moments of history are traced to reread the origins of the event.
The volume Spoleto 1964, the seventh Festival dei Due Mondi. Controversy over "Bella Ciao," Louis Malle director of "Der Rosenkavalier" directed from Schippers. Rudolf Nureyev and Margot Fonteyn, Paul Taylor and Twyla Tarp. First Reflections on Festivals and the Historical Center, published thanks to the contribution of Fondazione "Francesca, Valentina and Luigi Antonini" and with the support of Fondazione Cassa di Risparmio di Spoleto, features a preface by Camillo Corsetti Antonini, president of Fondazione "Francesca, Valentina and Luigi Antonini," an introduction by Cinzia Rutili, director of the State Archives of Perugia, and is divided into five chapters: Festival dei Due Mondi 1964. Protagonists and Performances by Moreno Cerquetelli; Spoleto '64 as Recounted by the NY Times and the Foreign Press by Marco Rambaldi; Spoleto 1964, the City and the Festival by Antonella Cristina Manni; a talk by architect Giuliano Macchia on the relationship between the Festival and the Historic Center; and The 1964 Festival in the Documents of the Spoleto State Archives Section by Paolo Bianchi.
The exhibition Spoleto 1964, the seventh Festival dei Due Mondi, to curated by the Spoleto State Archives Section, is set up on the premises of the archival institution and can be visited from June/July until Sept. 30, 2024.
