Flora Détraz
Between medieval images, ancient poems, short ditties and grotesque paintings, Muyte Maker brings to the stage a celebration of disobedient and irrational bodies.
The performance is a sensual, fun and energetic experience, a tribute to the power of transformation and joy. Femininity is perceived here as a potential in constant metamorphosis, while joy is understood as a physical and existential statement, as desire and creativity, a physical distortion, a contradiction, a state that transcends morality.
Flora Détraz, a young French choreographer among the most talented on the contemporary scene, from several years exploring the relationship between voice and movement by devising shows with a whimsical polyphony.
In Muyte Maker four female figures dance and perform pieces from the medieval and Renaissance repertoire. Funny, scabrous, satirical episodes compose a representation of the role of women in society marked from archaic and patriarchal views.
The performers, mythological beings in perpetual metamorphosis, sing profusely, laugh polyphonically, dance blindly and chat cacophonically, expressing all the complexity of their bodies, free from any constraints.
An ancient Flemish expression, Muyte Maker means "mutiny." Is this then what to we will witness?
