Under the inspiring and visionary leadership of artistic director Yaron Lifschitz, the Australian ensemble Circa, an internationally renowned contemporary circus company, brings to the stage, amid acrobatic whirlwinds and highly emotional stage actions, an unpredictable and spectacular version of Igor Stravinsky's Le Sacre du Printemps, the first ever from a circus art company.
In Sacre's pagan ritual, the performers' bodies contort, immobilize and evolve into acrobatic virtuosity giving a wild and tender interpretation to a'opera that was perhaps believed to be reserved only for to dancers and choreographers.
The ensemble, hailed as a true revolution, opens new perspectives to circus as a "total" art, expands its boundaries and invents a new language that can combine movement, dance, theater and circus.
With Sacre, Circa restores to Stravinsky's masterpiece, to fifty years after its demise, the innovative and modern, at the same time scandalous force that made it a'opera revolutionary. French composer Philippe Bachman's notes are placed side by side with Stravinsky's music, bringing to life to a sonic universe in which calm and storm follow one another amid electrifying explosions of physicality and power.
