FILM
In spring 2020, Pina Bausch's 1975 masterpiece The Rite of Spring was scheduled to tour the world internationally. Performed for the first time from an ensemble of 38 dancers from from 14 African countries, the show - produced from Pina Bausch Foundation (Germany), École des Sables (Senegal) and Sadler's Wells (Britain) - was to debut to Dakar as part of a diptych including Common Ground[s], a new work conceived and performed from Malou Airaudo and Germaine Acogny.
The Rite of Spring suffers a forced stop, to a few days after its premiere, to due to restrictions imposed by governments around the world as the health emergency escalates. Before disbanding in March 2020, the company seizes the moment by performing the choreography on the beach in Toubab Dialaw, Senegal near the École des Sables, for a final rehearsal before isolation. This intense and spontaneous gesture is captured on film by director Florian Heinzen-Ziob and his troupe, who, in Dancing at Dusk - to moment with Pina Bausch's The Rite of Spring, document a unique moment of self-awareness and togetherness.

Pina Bausch was born to Solingen in 1940 and died to Wuppertal in 2009. She received her choreographic training at the Folkwang School in Essen under the direction of Kurt Jooss, where she achieved technical excellence. After the director of Wuppertal Theaters, Arno Wüstenhöfer, hires her as choreographer, Bausch renamed the ensemble Tanztheater Wuppertal from the fall of 1973. Under this name, despite a controversial beginning, the company gradually achieved international fame. Its combination of poetic and everyday elements decisively influences the development of international dance. Awarded some of the most prestigious prizes and international recognition, Pina Bausch is one of the most influential choreographers of our time.
