The Amedeo Modigliani Institute offers two high-profile artistic events. A first exhibition is dedicated to Modigliani's friends, painters of great international renown and prominence who on different occasions and circumstances forged relationships and friendships with the Italian artist, sharing not only a passion for painting but also life experiences. Thus, unique works by Picasso, Modigliani, Utrillo, Braque, Chagall and others are on display, bringing to life to a significant and informative exhibition on Modigliani's Parisian life as well as on some of his most important friends. Works of rare beauty are interwoven to historical images and photos of Amedeo Modigliani's life in the early 1900s.
In parallel, the House is hosting the exhibition L'Agguato Sociale (The Social Ambush ) by contemporary Italian painter Mimmo Nobile, considered by his collectors and critics as a "social" painter, that is, an artist capable of interpreting the tensions, sufferings, faces and expressions of daily life, of a people torn by inequalities, conflicted and lonely, in their extreme desperation and abandonment.
With this first exhibition, the Institute intends to host in its House contemporary authors with strong pictorial and expressive abilities, but who for various reasons have not entered the big game of marketing and consumerist kermis of the international powerhouses of the art market.
Exactly as happened to the painter from Livorno, who in his lifetime never managed to to have a solo exhibition or a catalog of his works.
In this spirit, the Institute continues its mission in telling and popularizing the historical Modigliani without abandoning its other goal of presenting contemporary creativity with strong expressive and emotional content.
