Cristo
How do we represent something that may be nothing more than a chain of representations? is it possible that what we call reality is nothing more than a superposition of representations?
The 2007-2008 Investigation Project: Christ deals with the very topical issue of the transience of reality, considered in all its facets.
An investigation, through theatricality itself, into representation, its possibilities and its limits that places an important emphasis on the intermingling of theater and audiovisual arts, an acting work that reproduces the themes set forth while accompanying them with an ironic humor that enhances the sense of destabilization of everything that to us seems obvious and irrefutable.
Driven by the desire to begin a path of interchange with European audiences and artists, Teatro de Chile embarked on the creative journey of this process with a three-month rehearsal stage in the city of Amsterdam, supported from Crea Fonds (Fund for the Arts of the University of Amsterdam) and the Faculty of Theatre Studies at UvA. This creative phase, whose main objective was to investigate the creative possibilities offered by the use of audiovisual media, culminated in the debut of a "work in progress" called It is Never the Last Supper, a performance that was a remarkable success with audiences.
to Building on the experience and lessons learned from the first phase of this project, and adding to this the participation of artists and actors from from other creative experiences, Teatro de Chile began a second stage to Santiago del Chile, with the support of Fondart, a stage in which it would develop more fully the themes explored in Amsterdam.
After a six-month rehearsal period, this phase concluded with the debut of the final montage in January 2008 in the Matucana 100 hall. This season, followed from by a second in March and April of the same year, will then take Teatro de Chile to Amsterdam as the starting point for an extended European tour.
