An important history has united to Spoleto choreographer-director Pina Bausch, a legendary reference author of the dance-theater genre and founder of the Tanztheater Wuppertal ensemble. In the 1960s Pina danced several times in festival programs, both to alongside choreographer and dancer Jean Cébron, in the company of the New American Ballets, and as a performer for U.S. choreographer Paul Taylor. The Bausch dancer opened to a second creative life in the 1970s, becoming the inventor of a new language that would profoundly affect the Western stage. Ten years ago, in July 2009, Pina was supposed to be to Spoleto with her Tanztheater Wuppertal, which, however, performed without her: only days before, the choreographer had passed away suddenly, and the Tanztheater's Spoleto performances ended up turning into a moving farewell to one of the most influential and original artists of the late 20th century. On the 10th anniversary of her death, the festival pays tribute to this unforgettable artist by hosting a meeting with Lutz Förster, her great dancer and a central performer in her historic shows, who will talk about the "Bauschian" revolutions together with writer Leonetta Bentivoglio, author of three monographs on the German choreographer. On this occasion, the film of the masterpiece "Café Müller," the only Tanztheater Wuppertal piece in which Pina Bausch herself appeared, will be shown.
