MOSTRE DEL COMUNE DI SPOLETO
+50.
Sculture in città tra memoria (1962) e presente (2012)
Palazzo Collicola Visual Arts
artistic director Palazzo Collicola Visual Arts
and curator of the +50 projectGianluca Marziani
to fifty years since the major exhibition Sculptures in the City, curated in 1962 from Giovanni Carandente, Comune di Spoleto celebrates contemporary sculpture through the works of some fifty Italian artists who will be located at Palazzo Collicola Visual Arts and various venues around the city. Inside Palazzo Collicola there will be three major solo exhibitions, several special projects, as well as the brand new Collicolab (open space to young artists, cultural associations, foundations, individual realities). Three mappings will be developed on the streets of Spoleto, in other museums and institutional venues: a first one of historical character (which will take shape next fall thanks to a series of totems that will testify, through photographic images of 1962, the location of the works of the first exhibition); a second one, also of historical character, dedicated to the repositioning of some works of 1962 in their places of origin (Consagra and Pomodoro in particular), as well as the creation of an archive with the historical materials of the project; a third one of contemporary cut in which dozens of artists will place their sculptural works in the most fascinating places of the historical Spoleto.
Level 01: The memory of space
in the city (fall 2012)
Relocation of some existing sculptures to the place where they were installed in 1962. These include in particular Arnaldo Pomodoro and Pietro Consagra, as well as to an arrangement of the area where Alexander Calder and Beverly Pepper are located. Other existing works include sculptures by Linn Chadwick and Nino Franchina.
Level 02: Circuit 1962
in the city (December 2012)
Signage will be created with totem poles on which the photo ofopera in 1962 will stand. Each totem will go to the spot where the sculpture was originally placed. A caption telling aboutopera completes the work. A map of the city will then be created that can be downloaded from the museum´s website, as well as distributed with a printed foldout in central locations around the city.
Level 03: The space of memory
Palazzo Collicola (December 2012)
The coming winter will see the creation to Palazzo Collicola of an area where existing materials can be consulted: photographs, videos, documents and anything else that can help the public in their exploration of a vital exhibition.
Level 04: Sculpture to Palazzo Collicola
Palazzo Collicola (opening June 23, 2012)
Three major exhibitions on the Palace's three exhibition levels and several special projects are planned for Palazzo Collicola .
The great exhibitions of Palazzo Collicola:
John Albanese Carandente Collection + Archways Hall Exhibition floor
An anthological exhibition confronts works from the Carandente Collection. About twenty installation sculptures dialogue with artists and themes present to Palazzo Collicola , giving the combination the flavor of a memory that is reactivated in the dynamic space of the present.
Michelangelo Galliani Noble Floor
A journey through marble, wax and lead, the noble materials of great figurative sculpture. A′opera in every room of the Piano Nobile, with nothing touched among the magnificent rooms of a newly restored apartment from .
Robert Gligorov Floor Exhibitions
An anthological exhibition reconstructs the 20-year work of the artist, one of the most important authors of the contemporary Italian scene. Each room captures a specific aspect of the author, reviewing the career with the elastic attitude of continuous sampling.
The special projects of Palazzo Collicola:
Fausto Delle Chiaie Gallery Plan Exhibitions
For the first time, an Italian museum is hosting an exhibition by the most radical of urban sculptors. Famous for his daily installations at Piazza del Popolo to Rome, made exclusively from freshly salvaged scraps, Delle Chiaie represents something unique in the contemporary art scene.
Alex Pinna Facade Palazzo Collicola
The facade of the museum includes a large-scale sculptural intervention. Pinna´s stylized men will be at the center of a gravitational walk between the building´s windows.
Marianna Masciolini Collicola Ring
A young Umbrian author, from recently awarded at the GNAM in Rome as artist-woman of the year, creates an installation inside the new space of the Collicola Ring project.
EPVS Collicola Ring
Another woman for the other Collicola Ring. This is a high sensory impact room, a disorienting place filled from an element that breaks perceptual dynamics. A playful installation on the relationship between body and opera.
Chiara Dynys Noble Floor
An installation project in which sculpture reworks historical quotations and content along sensory dimensions that explain the eclectic nature of one of Italy's best artists.
Vincenzo Pennacchi Collicola Oasis
The garden of Palazzo Collicola sees the insertion of an installation domus that dialogues with the external dimension of the museum. A sculpture-house in which painting is integrated with the plastic volumes of the project.
Andrea Abbatangelo, Gaetano Bodanza, Peretti & Mauro, Antonio Riello, Alex Pinna, Francesco Mernini, Antonella Zazzera... toother spaces of Palazzo Collicola
Several sculptural interventions at some of the museum's interstitial points, to confirming a widespread vision of the museum and its multiple exhibition dimensions.
Level 05: Collicolab
Palazzo Collicola (opening June 23, 2012)
The lower floor of the museum hosts a series of realities working in Italy around the themes of contemporary sculpture and beyond. Each invited reality brings a personal project, thus from making the space a path of heterogeneous stimuli.
