Liceo Artistico "Leoncillo Leonardi," Spoleto
with the participation and support of the Comune di Spoleto
to edited by Giorgio Flamini and Roberta Galassi
The exhibition event SelfPortraits/Authors-Portraits offers itself to the public of the Festival as a sediment of a series of meetings held, since December 2011, between students of the Liceo Artistico "Leoncillo Leonardi" and contemporary artists, who, to conclusion of each performance, left their own opera in storage. The order of events, designed to conclude during the days of the Festival, consists of 14 lectures-performances by 17 established artists to national and international level who, for fourteen weeks, took turns presenting their own opera, their creative and professional path, the future directions of their poetics. The exhibition, constituted by successive stratifications of the works chosen by the artists and deposited, finds its curatorial code in the mutability of the ever-changing dialogue that each opera weaves with the other and with the monumental space that hosts them, the monumental complex of the former Convent of San Domenico, home of the Liceo Artistico; at the culmination of the event, coinciding with the days of the Festival, the result is a group exhibition that forces the specific exegetical will of the curator - placed in front of the non-determination of theopera/of the works on display - and that affirms instead the freedom of the artist and the further sovereignty of the cross-references and relationships generated by the contiguity between works and between works and architecture. The meetings with the artists, according to a formula already tried out in the winter session of the itinerary, are held at the Institute′s Chapter House or in the laboratories of Scenotechnics, Plastics, Painting Disciplines, and Art Photography of the Liceo Artistico. The following have already given their lectures: Virginia Ryan, Jeffrey Isaac, Gruppo Istrice (four young artists: Michele Santi, Cecilia Corbucci, Claudia Angrisani, Cristine Carriè), Gianluca Murasecchi, Bruno Ceccobelli, Michele Ciribifera, Graziano Marini, Stefano di Stasio, Paola Gandolfi. Scheduled during the Festival period are lecture-performances by Beverly Pepper, Giuseppe Gallo, Piero Raspi, Thomas Lange, Mutso Hirano, Carlo Maria Mariani. Of all the artists, the piece presented in the lecture and deposited for the occasion in the monumental spaces of the Liceo Artistico will be visible in the exhibition, commented from video made during the lecture/performance by the author. to conclusion of the exhibition is scheduled a panel discussion on contemporary art and contemporary criticism, dedicated to Giovanni Carandente and the 50th anniversary of "Sculptures in the City."
