Mary Manning: In Excelsis
The monumental complex of San Nicolo hosts the personal exhibition of the New York photographer Mary Manning. His accurate juxtapositions of 35mm analog prints depict people, nature, roads and much more. Conceptualizing the statement “paying attention as a practice of being alive”, the artist focuses on the importance and meaning of modest and trivial situations and things. The exhibition is enriched by some shots taken by Manning during the last edition of the Festival, on the occasion of his residence at Mahler & LeWitt Studiosin 2022.
Mary Manning (1972, Alton, Illinois) has exhibited in solo exhibitions at the Canada art gallery in New York, Sibling (formerly Little Sister) in Toronto and Cleopatra's in Brooklyn. In 2022, he edited “Looking Back: The 12th White Columns Annual” at the White Columns in New York. A book that collects recent works, Grace Is Like New Music, was published by Canada in 2023. Manning received his bachelor's degree in 1994 from Southern Illinois University in Carbondale, IL.
