Mary Manning: In Excelsis
The San Nicolo Monumental Complex is hosting a solo exhibition by New York-based photographer Mary Manning. Her careful juxtapositions of analog from 35mm prints depict people, nature, streets and more. Conceptualizing the statement "paying attention as a practice of being alive," the artist focuses on the importance and significance of modest and mundane situations and things. The exhibition is enhanced from some shots taken from Manning during the last edition of the Festival, during his residency at Mahler & LeWitt Studiosnel2022.
Mary Manning (1972, Alton, Illinois) has had solo exhibitions at Art Gallery Canada in New York, Sibling (formerly Little Sister) in Toronto, and Cleopatra's in Brooklyn. In 2022, he curated "Looking Back: The 12th White Columns Annual" at the White Columns in New York. A book collecting recent work, Grace Is Like New Music, was published from Canada in 2023. Manning graduated in 1994 from Southern Illinois University in Carbondale, IL.
