Synopsis

We will have four years of the most spectacular presidency in history, by comparison the memories of Obama, Reagan, Kennedy... will pale. Recounting the exploits of The Donald, a show of "theatrical journalism" to offer viewers a journey into the new populisms, their causes, their consequences.

A scheme to paintings, accompanied by musicians Valentino Corvino and Roberta Giallo, and the soundtrack to music by Bob Dylan the Rolling Stones: because Trump has used them extensively in his rallies, but also because their lyrics are "bad," aggressive, provocative.

The story and portrait of a controversial businessman, serial banker, molester of Miss Universe, inventor of a successful reality TV show, until his improbable rise to the White House. How the establishment derided him to the last, what and how many enormities he managed to to do on the campaign trail, always rising again.

Is the America that voted for him, after electing Obama twice, a "different" nation? Unrecognizable, warped, gone mad? Or instead were the causes of social unrest already clearly visible before, and he intercepted them by upsetting all the rules of political correctness?

What is "revolutionary" about Trump's language, and why he has also been able to speak uncomfortable truths about immigration, globalization.

The Age of Chaos. Before and after Trump, populist movements and the growing fascination with the Strong Man had emerged from old Europe: Putin, Erdogan, Xi Jinping. And after Brexit in Europe, elections in France and Germany will offer us constant updates and variations on the theme...

The betrayed promises of globalization. It was supposed to make us all richer, at least in the proclamations of neoliberal single thinking. How and why it has turned into a leveler of North-South inequalities (Chindia) but at the same time a vicious machine of impoverishing workers and the middle class inside our Western societies.

Multiethnic society and its frailties. New York and California as positive models: however, they have not healed the fear of deep America. Europe and the challenge of Islamic immigration. Why the wave of arrivals from North Africa and the Middle East poses different problems than to previous immigrations.

Healing democracy, or giving in to authoritarian temptations? Did the 1930s teach us anything?

These are some of the themes discussed and the questions to which Federico and Jacopo Rampini attempt, in the theater, to give an explanation.

Federico Rampini is a member of the Council on Foreign Relations based to New York and Washington; the CFR is America's leading geopolitics and geoeconomics think tank.
