JEAN PAUL GAULTIER
Eccentric, outrageous, provocative, exuberant and funny as ever, Jean Paul Gaultier amazes audiences with an explosive show between revue theater and fashion show. On stage, actors, dancers, singers and circus performers, dress the shoes of passionate, impertinent, exaggerated and sensual creatures.
Author, director and set designer of the Fashion Freak Show, Jean Paul Gaultier turns his gaze to our times in an extravagant yet tender way, and invites us Behind the scenes, into his world full of excess, poetry and magic.
From childhood to the early years of his career, from his spectacular fashion runways to crazy nights to Le Palace and to London, Gaultier shares never-before-seen life stories and pays tribute to those who inspired him in film (Pedro Almodovar, Luc Besson), music (Madonna, Kylie Minogue, Mylène Farmer) and dance (Régine Chopinot, Angelin Prejlocaj).
Along with her most famous creations, from the famous marinière to Madonna's iconic corset, dozens of stunning new costumes were made for the show, to be framed in equally exuberant sets.
For this extraordinary production, Gaultier collaborated with big names in the industry, such as actress, screenwriter and director Tonie Marshall, who co-directs the show, and Marion Motin for choreography. From disco music to funk, pop to rock and even new wave and punk, the Fashion Freak Show features a resounding playlist of hits that have inspired the artist throughout his life.

Born in 1952 in suburban Paris, Jean Paul Gaultier began his career with Pierre Cardin in 1970, on his 18th birthday. After working with Esterel, Patou, and again with Cardin, he founded his own fashion house in 1976 and held his first fashion show to Paris. Critical and commercial success was not long in coming, and in the early 1980s Gaultier was among the most talked about young designers. From the very beginning of his career, he wanted to show that beauty can have many facets and that we can find it where we least expect it, even in that insignificant tin can that first became a bracelet and then turned into the packaging of his now world-renowned perfume. His first men´s line was launched in 1984 with the "Homme Objet " collection, and in 1997 Gaultier realized his dream of embarking on the path of haute couture with the "Gaultier Paris" collection. He was also designer for the Hermes women's line from 2004 to 2011.
Throughout his career Gaultier has worked in dance, music and film. No one can forget the costumes made for Madonna's _Blond Ambition _tour. His first collaboration for film was with Peter Greeneway in the film _The Cook, the Thief, His Wife and Her Lover _in 1989. He has also designed costumes for _The City of Lost Children _by Caro and Jeunet, _The Fifth Element _by Luc Besson, and has worked on three occasions with Pedro Almodovar, for Kika - _A Borrowed Body, La mala educación _and The Skin I Dress.
"How did I meet Jean Paul Gaultier? By sitting him on a "petophone" pillow on the set of "Grand Journal," says Raphaël Cioffi with amusement. A longtime collaborator of Charlotte Le Bon, with whom he inaugurated the webzine Spank, this 30-year-old pop culture star quickly became the designer's favorite pen. In his sketches for "Catherine et Liliane" on Canal+ and in the articles he writes for L'Officiel magazine, he conceives and writes the défilé programs and the hilarious advertising videos for his perfumes, which revolve around actress Rossy de Palma and her vocal assistant Jean Pod. "With my work, in a way, I become an extension of her. In the Fashion Freak Show I express to words her story and her universe. Our goal is also to show that one can do ambitious and elegant things even without ever being snobbish or haughty."
Actress, screenwriter, and the first and only woman to win a César award for best director, Tonie Marshall is co-director of Fashion Freak Show, a big change for an artist who has worked more for the big screen than the theater. She is however to also comfortable here, having shot the documentary_ Les Falbalas de Jean Paul Gaultier_ in 2004, to close contact with the great designer and his art.
