Brad Mehldau
Piano Solo
One of the most poetic and profound voices in contemporary jazz piano, Brad Mehldau has forged a unique style that embodies the essence of jazz exploration, classical romance, and pop charm. From critical acclaim as a bandleader to international fame through outstanding collaborations with Pat Metheny, Anne Sofie von Otter, Renée Fleming, Ian Bostridge, and Joshua Redman, Mehldau continues to to garner numerous awards and the admiration of both jazz purists and music lovers alike. His forays into different musical idioms, in trio (with Larry Grenadier on bass and Jeff Ballard on percussion) and solo, are brilliant reworkings of songs by contemporary composers such as the Beatles, Cole Porter, Radiohead, Paul Simon, Gershwin and Nick Drake flanked by his ever-evolving catalog of original compositions.
Mehldau recently premiered his Piano Concerto at the Philharmonie du Paris, a piece co-commissioned by the Orchestre National d'Île de France; L'Auditori de Barcelona; the Barbican Centre London and Britten Sinfonia; Philharmonie Luxembourg and Orchestre Philharmonique du Luxembourg; National Forum of Music, Wroclaw, Poland (Jazztopad Festival); and Los Angeles Philharmonic Association.
