BANDA DELLA MARINA MILITARE
CONCERTO
The Music Band of the Italian Navy traces its origins to the small instrumental ensembles that, in pre-unification navies, were normally embarked on the Admiral Ships.
In 1861, with the union of the Navies of the Sardinian-Piedmontese Kingdom and the Kingdom of the Two Sicilies, the Regia Marina was born and with it the first band ensemble. It was a small ensemble embarked on the Nave Ammiraglia and consisting of from performers mostly from the ranks of the Bourbon Navy, including the first Director.
The Band's staff consists of a Master Conductor, a Deputy Master Conductor, 102 orchestral players, and an archivist, all of whom are in permanent active service and come from the most famous music conservatories.
The musical repertoire spans every genre from original band music to classical, opera/symphonic, pop/rock, and jazz.
Currently, the Band performs regularly in Italy (in the most important theaters and squares such as Milan, Rome, Venice, Naples, Trieste, Genoa, Parma, Bari, Catania) and abroad (Sweden, Spain, Belgium, USA, New Zealand, Egypt, Germany, Austria).
For her ability to represent through music the Navy's commitment to social work and humanitarian aid, she was awarded the Knighthood of Peace in 2004 by the International Center for Peace Among Peoples in Assisi.
He also has extensive production of video and record material to his credit.
Currently the Band is commanded by Captain Santo Pagano Giorgianni and is conducted by Master Captain Antonio Barbagallo.
