The group exhibition Windows is the first in a series of exhibitions to curated by Teodora di Robilant in collaboration with Galleria Alessandra Bonomo created for the Cloister of San Nicolò. The complex has been an active cultural center since the 1960s: in 1972 the exhibition 420 West Broadway involved 33 artists represented from Leo Castelli, André Emmerich, Sonnabend and John Weber, and in the same year Sol LeWitt set up his opera public Wall Drawing #136 there, the first one exhibited to Spoleto. Windows offers research in the field of nature with the intention of highlighting different visions of natural forms through artists' interpretations. The exhibition includes a selection of works by international artists reporting to considerations on the current state of nature and man's relationship with it. The interest in the natural world is expressed through the use of different media including videos, installations, photos and paintings. The works also investigate the role of natural elements in art contexts generating new languages and multiple readings of the surrounding reality. Natural light penetrates the environment through the large windows of the cloister, giving the exhibition space a continuity with the outdoors. Each artist presents a single project, aopera, but also a body of work that outlines the vision of a unified work. Windows compares to artists from from different places creating a visual affinity and unexpected points of contact. The exhibition includes previously unseen work made especially for the exhibition.
