Since the 1970s, Enrico Pieranunzi has had a privileged relationship with the solo piano, for him a place of reflection, a ground for experimentation and an effective instrument of communication. In his various songbooks he casually brings together his original compositions, improvisations, well-known American standards and diversions into the classical sphere. Pieranunzi's latest opera discography is My songbook, which brings together 11 compositions by the pianist, who also wrote the lyrics. In some tracks he is joined by singer Simona Severini.

He has recorded more than 70 CDs to his name ranging from solo piano to quintet and collaborating, in concert or in the recording studio, with Chet Baker, Lee Konitz, Paul Motian, Charlie Haden, Chris Potter, Marc Johnson, Joey Baron. He has performed on stages in major European countries, South America, Japan, and, numerous times, in the United States. In 2009, French musicologist and journalist Ludovic Florin presented an extensive paper devoted to the Italian pianist's musical language at the Sorbonne as his doctoral thesis. Several of his compositions have become true standards played and recorded from musicians around the world. These include "Night Bird," "Don't forget the poet," "Les Amants," "Fellini's Waltz," "Je ne sais quoi," and "Coralie." Some of them have been published in the prestigious U.S. "New Real Books."
