How much life can pulsate around to a single tree? Fulfilling the promise of the title to the letter, Laurent Charbonnier and Michel Seydoux's film creeps, with a drone gliding from above, beneath the foliage and into the silence of a forest, until to it reaches the roots of a farnia, or pedunculate oak (quercus robur) dating back to 1810. From the very first minutes, the "queen of trees," interpreted from ancient times as a symbol of strength and endurance, is much more than observed: it is probed, dissected by the machine from taken, which exalts it as a fortified and welcoming home.

Scotsman Christopher Clark lived for more than two decades in the Amazon with the goal that technology and nature could coexist. His greatest desire has been to draw the attention of the Brazilian government and world public opinion to the most pristine area of the forest. To do this he cherishes the idea of being able to bring Pink Floyd to back to play exactly there. The documentary records and accompanies this utopian dream.

THE SONG OF THE EARTH

by Margreth Olin

International title: The song of earth. Genre Documentary, - Norway, 2023, running time 90 minutes. Distributed from Wanted. Selected at the Academy Awards for Best International Film.

The Song of the Earth is a majestic symphony for the big screen. The director's father becomes our guide through Norway's most picturesque valleys: where he grew up and where multiple generations have followed each other living to closely with nature in order to survive. The sounds of the earth harmonize to perfection creating a unique symphony that accompanies this breathtaking journey through landscape and memory. The Song of the Earth has the simplest possible plot: Olin returns to the Oldedalen valley in western Norway. His goal is to spend some time with his 84-year-old father, while the figure of his mother remains more in the background. Following in her parents' footsteps and their story of love and life, the filmmaker spends an entire year, finding in the seasonal scan the structure for her documentary.
