Padmâvatî
In Italy it was staged to Naples in the early 1950s, directed from Andre Cluytens, and to Florence in the early 1970s directed from Georges Prêtre.Represented, after a long gestation, to Paris in 1923, it draws inspiration from the author's travels to the East and of oriental music he elaborates, in neoclassical style, modes, stylistic features and structures, inserting himself in a totally original way into that Orientalist world that had so much importance in French culture.It is anOpera- Ballet where, reinventing the genre created from Lully, Roussel inscidably fuses musical, theatrical and choreographic components. The libretto is by Orientalist Louis Laloy and is based on ancient chronicles of India.
