MY LADIES ROCK
COMPAGNIE JEAN-CLAUDE GALLOTTA
If, as they say, History is written by the victors, the History of Rock is no exception. In this case, it is told by men who hold an ancestral power they struggle to to share. And so, in a way from unhinging the doors of Rock, the first women who appeared to this world had no choice but to dare, demolishing the image to to which they were relegated. Not all the women who attempted to do so were successful. Those who succeeded to on the stage did their best to stay there, like Brenda Lee, Aretha Franklin, Janis Joplin, Patti Smith and their heirs, allowing themselves the right to be who they wanted to be, to cost of excess, with their own voices, bodies, way of life and even throwing themselves into role-play. The women of Rock did much more than simply bring renewal to the stage: they shook up Western societies with anger and courage, exploding gender constraints that had become too tight, and thus allowing men too to play with their femininity, from Mick Jagger to David Bowie, to Lou Reed. _My Ladies Rock _tells the
history of a rock less exposed to glory than that of men but just as fertile, and even more exciting, linked as it was to the battle for women's rights, still far from over.
