Max Cooper
A Northern Irish producer and visual artist based to London, Max Cooper began his career as an electronic musician in 2007, during which time he earned a PhD in computational biology. Soon the two souls, that of musician and that of scientist, found a perfect synthesis in his productions, characterized from an instantly recognizable identity no matter how difficult it is to label the artistic result with a precise genre. Each of his compositions represents a challenge, which he tackles with the collaboration of scientific researchers and visual artists. Prominent among them are the names of Dugan Hammock and Andy Lomas, geneticist Mikhail Spivakov, and Peter Fraser and Csilla Varnai of the Babraham Institute, with whom he has worked to visually represent research data on the structure of chromosomes and genes.
Like a spiritual guide, in each of his concerts Cooper opens the door to the viewer of an immersive experience in which hybrid music, between cyber and human, mixes with the projection of moving images in one powerful dance.
"I have always loved music as much as I have loved the visual arts," comments Max Cooper, "the quantum leap came when I realized that I could also enhance to artistic ends my background in science studies by using it in visuals. from there, in a beautiful and almost surprising virtuous circle, the increased complexity and quality of the visual component raised the bar for my musical ideas as well."
Active in raising awareness of environmental issues, Cooper authored the music for the video starring from Greta Thunberg and Pope Francis and presented at COP26: an exhortation for world leaders to address climate and the environment in post-Covid remediation projects. He has performed at prestigious festivals such as Glastonbury, Latitude, MUTEK, Amsterdam Dance, and Decibel. In 2021 he was the first techno artist to to perform at the Acropolis in Athens.
