Synopsis

With the review L'utopia possibile continues Luca Ronconi's long and successful collaboration with the Spoleto Festival dei 2 Mondi, which began in 1969 with the staging ofOrlando furioso, a memorable show that changed the history of Italian theater. The collaboration has continued over the years with the Santacristina Theater Center and has seen the birth of works such as Un altro gabbiano, La Modestia, In cerca d'autore and Pornografia.

After Danza macabra, the last production born to Spoleto in 2014, the Santacristina Theater Center and the Spoleto Festival present as part of the 59th edition the review L'utopia possibile: the great "world theater" of Luca Ronconi. Three days of screenings and meetings to take an unprecedented theatrical and human journey into the Maestro's artistic universe.

The palimpsest of the review, curated from Roberta Carlotto and Claudio Longhi, traces, through a work of selection and montage of the materials to available, an articulated path in Ronconi's production, following three basic themes (stage space, dramaturgy and actors).

27 at total, featuring performances presented in their entirety or by selections of scenes, specials with interviews, backstage and rehearsals made on the occasion of debuts, documentaries, series of stage photographs for performances of which no video footage exists, rare fragments of television scripts with Ronconi as an actor, long interviews to Ronconi, replayed in their entirety or to excerpts, including those made from Ariella Beddini, Franco Marcoaldi and Jacopo Quadri. It is precisely Ronconi's words and statements, scattered throughout the days and the projected materials, to tell us about his views on theater and to guide us through his "world theater."

FromOrlando furioso to Lemahn Trilogy, Ronconi's last show produced by the Piccolo Teatro in Milan, from the shows of the Prato Workshop to those born at the Spoleto Festival, from the _Borkman _televisual, to theOrestea, to Infinities, to The Last Days of Humanity, to name but a few of the many titles in this special anthology that covers fifty years of activity, traces an almost encyclopedic repertoire from the Baroque to the contemporary, and features alternating great protagonists, to to whom the third day of the review is entirely dedicated.

The three chosen themes are also the common thread of the daily meetings led from Claudio Longhi, who will converse with Giorgio Ferrara aroundOrlando Furioso, with Stefano Massini and Emanuele Trevi on dramaturgy and the relationship with texts, and with Riccardo Bini, Massimo De Francovich, Lucrezia Guidone, Manuela Mandracchia and Massimo Popolizio on working with actors.

In addition, two recently published volumes will be presented on July 7: Luca Ronconi. Un grande maestro negli anni dei guru by Italo Moscati (Ediesse 2016), and Ronconi secondo Quadri, a collection of over 90 reviews by Franco Quadri, to edited by Leonardo Mello (Ubulibri 2016). Both publications start fromOrlando Furioso in their critical reflection and, at the same time, are an opportunity to reread the exclusive lifelong relationship between Ronconi and Franco Quadri.

This review will also be an opportunity to present the agreement between the Foundation Festival dei Due Mondi and Roberta Carlotto for the digitization of the Luca Ronconi Archive, already declared "of particularly important historical interest" by the Archival Superintendence of Umbria and Marche, which is cataloging and documenting the materials while waiting to identify their final destination.

The agreement stems from the desire to contribute to the preservation and dissemination of the work and thought of Luca Ronconi, one of the most important figures in contemporary culture and theater.
