RITORNO ALLE FONTI
On the occasion of the centenary of Leoncillo Leonardi's birth, Spoleto-his hometown-and the Festival dei 2Mondi, which hosted an unforgettable anthological exhibition of his work in 1969, one year after his sudden death, are promoting, to starting in June 2015 until 2016, a series of events supported by Comune di Spoleto, the Municipality of Campello and the Fondazione Cassa di Risparmio di Spoleto. There are two events in the 58th Festival to remember an extraordinary figure of an artist who, through her works and her diary, offers one of the most acute, original and intense testimonies of 20th-century Italian art.
This exhibition sees Fabio Sargentini, Alberto Zanmatti and Gianluca Marziani united in a project that traces elective affinities and artistic encounters that from always Spoleto inspires and helps to realize.
In 1962, the young Zanmatti, who curated the staging of the historic exhibition "Sculptures in the City," conceived from Giovanni Carandente, collected Leoncillo's wish to see his four sculptures, _Pathetic Affinities _and St. Sebastian I and II, placed among the waters of the Fonti del Clitunno. Today, Zanmatti himself seizes the opportunity of the centennial of his birth to finally fulfill the Artist's wish, affectionately cherished for fifty-three years, and offers visitors the unique opportunity to see the clay "[.] that will be born as a new natural object, a plant among the leaves [...] A new natural object profoundly true of our natu- ralness, like a stone that is of the earth, like the leaf of the tree, like this hand that is mine [...]" (from Leoncillo's Little Diary).
