La trota
MusicAnimalia #6
It is especially in the repertoire of Lieder for voice and piano that Franz Schubert-"the greatest poet in music," as Liszt called him- knew how to get the poetic images that inspired them right into the texture of his pieces. The Lied The Trout sings of a "lesto little fish" who inevitably falls prey to a fisherman's hook and finds himself, from free creature that he was, a "deceived victim." The melody of the trout became so famous that Schubert chose it for the fourth movement of Quintet D667, performed by the Perugia Orchestra from Chamber Ensemble featuring Enrico Bronzi on cello.
