Oscar winner Marion Cotillard, for the first time at the Spoleto Festival, together to Benoît Jacquot, one of the finest auteurs in French cinematography.
Written by Swiss composer Arthur Honegger in 1938, Jeanne d'Arc au Bûcher is a fascinating musical fresco. Paul Claudel's libretto is constructed as a flashback, in which Jeanne thinks back on her life shortly before her death. The last moments of the martyr's life, illustrated by Honegger's evocative and innovative music, resonate like a heartbreaking scream.
