FILM
The idea of narrating in a film the Spoleto Festival, now in its 60th edition, to describe its inimitable cosmopolitan and multidisciplinary spirit, was a natural choice, as a due tribute for an important anniversary, a tribute to the beauty of art as nourishment and care. I entrusted Benoît Jacquot's refined direction and Gérald Caillat's experience from documentarist with the task of making even better known the richness of this Festival's history, the extraordinariness of its protagonists, and its wise vocation that, between glamour and provocation, historical theatrical premieres and biting avant-garde interpretations, contributes to the growth and cultural exchange of the whole world. The film's "cheerful" editing is never chronological. It relentlessly navigates between the past and the present to create a harmony between archival materials and the most current images.
George Ferrara
The Spoleto Festival, or Festival dei Due Mondi, celebrates its 60th anniversary this year. Created by Italian-American composer Gian Carlo Menotti in 1958 and directed from ten years from Giorgio Ferrara, this unique festival reflects, from always, the best that Italian and international culture can offer. As in Jean Vigo's film, to propos de
Nice, together with Gérald Caillat we have chosen to paint these 60 years of the Festival in a poetic form, through radical associations, rhymes, caesuras of rhythm, punctuated by Giorgio Ferrara's voice, which is perfectly suited to the polymorphous richness of the Festival and the diversity of the materials of which the film is composed.
