The cultural sector has been one of the hardest hit by the pandemic. But it can become one of the driving sectors for economic recovery and for achieving new goals of social and environmental sustainability. A strategic reflection on these issues is proposed by the Association for the Economics of Culture, which from thirty years, including through its magazine of the same name, has been developing research, studies and proposals on the relationship between culture and the economy. The reflection starts from the analysis of the impact of the pandemic on the Italian cultural sector, from the intervention guidelines contained in the National Program for Recovery and Resilience and from a comparison of opinions among representatives of the world of cultural heritage, music, entertainment, cultural industries. As part of the meeting, the two latest issues of Economics of Culture magazine, dedicated to contemporary art and to measuring the economic dimension of the cultural sector, are presented.
