Italian premiere and exclusive program for Spoleto54 Festival dei Due Mondi
"The Corella Ballet company, founded in 2008 by Spanish star Angel Corella, is the youngest ballet company and is establishing itself worldwide as one of the most vibrant. The 54th Festival dei 2 Mondi is their Italian debut and they bring us a repertoire that is new to us."

Corella Ball et Castilla y León, a Spanish classical ballet company created by celebrated dancer Ángel Corella, presents four creations by four choreographers in its Italian debut. Opening the program is Bruch Violin Concerto, a picturesque, energetic piece choreographed from Clark Tippet to the score of Max Bruch's Violin Concerto No. 1. Clear, the second piece of the evening, was created from Stanton Welch for the American Ballet Theatre only two weeks after the Sept. 11 attack. Seven men and one woman, to music by J.S. Bach, express on stage the feelings that arose to following the tragic event. This is followed by Solea, voted one of the ten best performances by Dance Magazine, created expressly from Maria Pagés for Ángel Corella and his sister Carmen, a to two fusion step that blends the technique of classical virtuosity to flamenco steps. The evening concludes with Christopher Wheeldon's mighty DGV Danse to Grand Vitesse, danced to the notes of Michael Nyman's MGV (Musique à Grande Vitesse).

Created in April 2008, it is currently the only ballet company in Spain. Since its creation it has presented two cornerstones of ballet: La Bayadere and Swan Lake, commissioning parallel creations. Currently the repertoire consists of from about 30 ballets. The creation of the company is only the first pillar carried out by the Fundación Ángel Corella (whose purpose is to promote ballet in Spain), and is part of the much larger project of creating a School of Dance that will serve as a building site from which the company will be able to draw the best talent. The prevailing reason in Angel Corella′s choice to create this company stems from the desire to be able to offer work to the best Spanish talent thus attempting to limit the now 20-year exodus that classical dancers are forced to to undertake in order to dance. The same path forcibly taken from Corella himself.
ANGEL CORELLA Considered an absolute star by ballet dancers around the world, he began his training to Madrid; he won the Prize at the Concurso de Ballet Nacional de España at a very young age and in 1994, he won the gold medal with special mention at the Paris Dance Competition. In 1995 he joined to the American Ballet Theatre as Soloist promoted Principal a year later. from that moment his career took off, he was invited by the most prestigious companies and performed on the most important stages in the world. Winner of numerous international prizes and awards (Benois de la Danse in 2000, Premio Nacional de Danza in 2002, Medal Internacional de las Artes de la Comunidad de Madrid in 2008, Ballet International Award 2011). They have created for him, among others, John Neumeier, Twyla Tharp, Mark Morris, Christopher Wheeldon, Nacho Duato, David Parson. In 2001 he created the Angel Corella Foundation with the intention of financially supporting dance studies and training to underprivileged children.
