CONCERTI DI MEZZOGIORNO
Continuing on the happy path that links the Festival to the Fiesole School of Music, the traditional appointment of the Midday Concerts is renewed. The various from chamber groups of the prestigious Fiesole institution (string quartets, saxophone ensemble, to wind quintet, numerous duos with piano) will try their hand at very different and contrasting programs: Classical and Romantic composers (Haydn, Mozart, Mendelssohn, Beethoven, Schumann), the historical 20th century (Shostakovic, Stravinsky, Hindemith, Respighi), the contemporary repertoire (Nyman, Piazzolla, Britten, Ligeti); with special emphasis on the figure of Claude Achille Debussy, whose 150th anniversary of his birth (1862) falls. The Fiesole musicians are also joined this year by a formation composed from first parts of the laVerdi orchestra: a string duo, formed from violin and cello, offers a fascinating excursus on virtuosity between the 18th and 19th centuries.

FIESOLE MUSIC SCHOOL
from nearly forty years, the Fiesole School of Music is a landmark in the international music scene. Founded in 1974 from Piero Farulli, legendary viola player of the Italian Quartet, the School has more than 1,300 students, 7 orchestras, 6 choirs, 140 teachers. It has an intense and constant musical activity throughout the year and a great number of the School′s students have now successfully entered the profession of musicians; more than 1,000 come from the Italian Youth Orchestra. The School has so far availed itself of such extraordinary collaborators as Riccardo Muti, Salvatore Accardo, Luciano Berio, Claudio Abbado, Natalia Gutman, György Kurtág, Giorgio Battistelli, Gabriele Ferro, Krzysztof Penderecki, Pavel Vernikov, Gianandrea Noseda, and Giuseppe Sinopoli. Supporting the School are the Ente Cassa di Risparmio di Firenze, an irreplaceable patron of all its activities, the Ministry of Cultural Heritage and Activities, the Region of Tuscany, the Province and Municipality of Florence, and the Municipality of Fiesole. In 1981 he received the Abbiati Prize, in its first edition, as the best musical initiative. In 2005 she received from Carlo Azeglio Ciampi the National Prize President of the Republic, on the recommendation ofAccademia Nazionale di Santa Cecilia. The 2000 Galileo International Prize awarded her the Pentagramma d′oro in 2011. Since 2008 Andrea Lucchesini has been artistic director and Piero Farulli honorary president.
