The State Police Musical Band, with a history of more than 80 years marked from continuous successes that have left an important mark on the cultural landscape in Italy and abroad, has always provided significant signs of modernity over time. Its vast repertoire, considered among the most complete and representative, includes pages by classical composers alongside to original compositions for Wind Orchestra by modern and contemporary composers such as Hindemith, Schonberg, and Holst along with a marked sensitivity to masterpieces of symphonic-choral literature. The high artistic profile of its interpretations and the quality of the programs offered qualify it among the best Wind Orchestras at the international level. Great interest and considerable prestige have been aroused by the international performances to Jerusalem, New York, Essen, Mexico, Malta, Oslo, in which the Band has represented Italy with all prominence. It participated in the 2008 Columbus Day celebrations to New York, holding a concert at the Hammerstein Ballroom in Manhattan and at the Italian Embassy to Washington. Under the leadership of Maestro Maurizio Billi, considered a reference figure in the panorama of wind orchestras to international level, the Musical Ensemble has reached levels of undisputed quality witnessed from recordings that have won unanimous acclaim.

A musician, composer and conductor, he completed his musical studies at the S. Cecilia Conservatory in Rome, earning, among other degrees, a diploma in Conducting with top marks and in Composition, later specializing at the Accademia Nazionale di S. Cecilia with Franco Donatoni. He graduated with honors in Letters from "La Sapienza" University in Rome, with a thesis on Goffredo Petrassi (Sellerio 2002), and was awarded the "Mario Soldati Prize" in 2004. His activity as a composer has earned him numerous national and international prizes and awards including the "European Personality" award (2000 and 2010). He has been a teacher of Musical Analysis for the Advanced Course at the Conservatory of Music in Teramo, of Conducting and Instrumental Practice for Wind Orchestra for the two-year Advanced Course at the Conservatories of Music Santa Cecilia in Rome and "Nino Rota" in Monopoli (Bari).

He has performed in all the most important theaters in Italy and abroad, taking part in to major events such as the Ravello Festival and the Symphonic Season of the Teatro Carlo Felice in Genoa, making his debut in 2016 at the Philharmonie Berlin. He is guest conductor of prestigious orchestras (Orchestra Sinfonica Nazionale della Rai, Orchestra Giuseppe Verdi di Milano, Orchestra del Teatro Carlo Felice, Orchestra del teatro Petruzzelli di Bari, Filarmonica di Torino, Berliner Symphoniker, Orchestra di Stato del Kazakistan, Orquesta Sinfónica del Estado de México OSEM) and has collaborated with the main Italian lyric-symphonic foundations (Accademia di S. Cecilia, Teatro dell'Opera, Teatro Regio di Torino e di Parma) as well as with internationally renowned artists. Artistic Director of the Marenco Festival and the International Composition Competition of the same name, he is engaged in an intense activity of promotion and dissemination of original music for contemporary and twentieth-century winds. Since 1992 he has been Director of the State Police Band, considered among the best Wind Orchestras to international level, with which he has performed, in Italy and abroad, more than 600 concerts and is engaged in an intense activity of promotion and dissemination of original music for contemporary and twentieth-century winds.
