Festival dei Due Mondi joins in the condolences of the theater world for the passing of Maurizio Scaparro, a revolutionary figure who contributed to the birth of public theater and modern directing in Italy. In 1965, it was Festival dei Due Mondi that hosted his first theatrical direction with "La Venexiana," which Scaparro himself later called "a dangerous text, but one that made sense to do," at the suggestion of Gian Carlo Menotti.Maurizio Scaparro returned to the Spoleto Festival in 1983 with the direction of "Don Quixote - Frammenti di un discorso teatrale," in 1985 with "Il barbiere di Siviglia," in 1987 with "Fatto di cronaca" and, most recently, in 2011 with the show "Eleonora, ultima notte to Pittsburgh" with Anna Maria Guarnieri.
