_Pneuma _is a multimedia installation at opera by Daniele Spanò, created in the beautiful setting of the former Church SS Giovanni e Paolo in the heart of medieval Spoleto. Pneuma is a dialogue between sound and wind where, seamlessly, one generates the other and vice versa. In ancient Greek _Pneuma _meant soul, original vital principle, impalpable and invisible, therefore immaterial but also material, as shown by the swelling of a curtain at the breath of the wind. It is the breath of place and history flowing in it; it is the sacred taking plastic form under the voluptuous folds of the curtains; the confrontation of uncertainty and unpredictability, with the all-human need for control and predictability. Here in the former SS Giovanni e Paolo church, which holds important frescoes from the 12th to the 16th century, contemporary artistic intervention activates new visions and generates _un'opera that preserves an ancient spirit, which overflows, like so much painting, beyond the frame and physical space _(Silvia Marsano), until to it becomes living sculpture.
Instruments to wind and drapes give body to the invisible; the careful calibration between the sound wave and the blowing of the wind--implemented thanks to to a specially developed multimedia program--enables the orchestration of Pino Pecorelli's original music. _Pneuma _is the development of a project path that begins with Act I in the Church of the Artists.
to Piazza del Popolo to Rome, where sound and movement were accompanied by the dimension of video. to Spoleto, a further process of synthesis to go beyond the physicality of the image and create not so much an object as an environment, so close to to the natural one, from catapult us into the former church as in a boat ready to to leave.
