Irina Brook
Tre storie di vendetta, perdono, amore e libertà
IrinasDreamTheatre invites you to join to us on an initiatory journey from island to island: an action-packed adventure in search of self.
Each island transports us to a different world and atmosphere, but beyond appearances, sand, sea, and sky, we are, in each of these universes, to confronted with deep questions about our human condition, our emotions, and our actions.
We then follow Odysseus in his mythical adventures as he searches for the path back to his homeland. It is a path fraught with trials, where we see him escape the intoxication of the Lotophagi, outsmart the bloodthirsty Cyclops, resist the calls of the Sirens, or even almost succumb to the bewitching charms of the sorceress Circe before finally succeeding to in finding his beloved family to Ithaca. A day of wiles, trials, passions and sensuality. And an ending without any mercy for Penelope's suitors. Ulysses does not forgive: for him there is only revenge.
... We then go to shipwrecked on Prospero's island: a seemingly magical place where music and spells reign. But a dark side can be sensed there: the island is under the power of a powerful tyrant: the esoteric magician-chef Prospero. The only inhabitants of this realm are his daughter Miranda, the monster Caliban and an island spirit, Ariel, young people who share, each to his own way, a single dream: to escape Prospero's patriarchal power and finally gain independence and freedom.
This island raises questions about the innermost aspects of the human heart: how can he accept that the people we love are free? Let them be themselves? How can one control one's own ascendancy and power so as not to abuse others? And finally, how to succeed to forgive?
Finally, after a crash landing, we find ourselves on the Island of Slaves. A clearly utopian island where the principles of ideal justice and equality reign, inspired by the thought and writings of the Renaissance and Enlightenment eras. This is the place where a new model of society set on the common good is experimented with, under the watchful eye of the mysterious "governor" Trivelin, a former slave. The latter, when masters and servants captain the island, reverses their social roles and observes their behavior hoping that they will learn compassion, healing them from their selfishness. On this island we can realize the dream of a world of kindness, generosity, where compassion and forgiveness matter more than anything else.

IRINA BROOK
A child of the arts (her father is director Peter Brook and her mother is actress Natasha Parry), Irina Brook was born to Paris and grew up between England and France. to eighteen she moved to New York to study acting with Stella Adler and began to acting in Off-off-Broadway productions. She then acts to Paris and to London in several films, television productions and numerous plays, until to realizing that her true calling is directing. There have been many theatrical productions from her directed in Europe and around the world since her first creation to London in 1996, to Beast On The Moon by Richard Kalinoski, whose 1998 French version, produced by Théâtre de Vidy-Lausanne, then presented on an international tour, and finally at Théâtre de l'Oeuvre to Paris, received five Molière awards (including Best Director and Best Play). Following her many successes, she decided to create "La Compagnie Irina Brook" thanks to the collaboration of Olivier Peyronnaud and the Maison de la Culture de Nevers et de la Nièvre. In 2013 the company became Irina's DreamTheatre, starting a collaboration with Parisian literary producers and agents Marie Cècile Renauld and Marie-Astrid Perimony. Irina Brook has also directed several d'opera. In April 2014 she will direct Donizetti's L'Elisir D'Amore for the Berlin Deutschesopera, and in April 2015 Don Pasquale atOpera in Vienna. In addition to receiving several international awards, in 2002, Irina Brook was named Chevalier des Arts et des Lettres by the French Minister of Culture. With the Trilogy project at the Spoleto Festival, a productive collaboration also begins with CRT Artificio and Change Performing Arts in Milan.
NÖELLE GINEFRI
A graduate of the Ecole Nationale des Arts Décoratifs in Nice with Alain Fleischer, I began my career first as a decorator and then as assistant set and costume designer, alongside Patrice Cauchetier for Jean Louis Thamin, Emilio Carcano for Alfredo Arias, and Chloé Obolinski for Peter Brook. In 1985 I signed my first set design with Claude Régis at the TGP de Saint Denis for Maeterlinck's Intérieur and later for theater andopera with numerous directors: Dominique Feret, Alain Olivier, Irina Brook, Simon Abkarian, Guy-Pierre Couleau, Nicole Aubry, Patrick Sommier, Anne Dimitiadis, Loïc Corbery, Olivier Broda... I have also worked for installations in several museums.
THIBAULT DUCROS
Born in 1961, I worked as a production inspector at the General Council of the department of Essonne, in charge of props and reception of touring theater companies within the department. Technical director of the Essonne Science Festival, I have taken graduate courses in technical direction and safety in shows. I am in charge of lighting for concerts held periodically in the various municipalities of Essonne. Since 2004, I have been the general organizer of Irina Brook's company.
PHILIPPE JASKO
I was born to Paris a few years ago... I like to draw, and I did studies in graphic design and computer science. After several experiences in the field, I collaborated as a computer engineer to large European projects (Bibliothèque de France, Technocentre Renault...) joining to a well-known firm of architects. In search of my artistic vein, I took a degree at the Institut d'Etudes Supérieures des Arts in Paris. So I began my career as a creator of accessories, objects and scenes for theater and cinema, both in small productions and large international creations (Carmina Burana au Cirque d'Hiver, Jeanne au Bûcher à l'Eglise de la Trinité, Musica Sacra...). Since 2008 I have joined Irina for a rich and faithful collaboration on her plays and operas.
HOVNATAN AVEDIKIAN
I grew up in a large Armenian family of laborers, artists and doctors.
Meals, meetings and parties played a very important role. Acting soon became a way to express myself. A language.
My journey is made up of exceptional encounters and mutual trust with a number of theater and film directors. The first was Irina Brook, with whom I continue to to work and have naturally formed a strong bond...
On the stage and on the set I feel to home (rather than my real home).
What remains of ourselves is what we give to others. My dream is to continue to believing that everything can still change.
SCOTT KOEHLER
I was born on the edge of the planet and would have fallen down if I had not found a small place on the world stage. As soon as I could, I left Australia and traveled to Europe, Asia and the United States, meeting different theater artists, dancers and puppeteers. For me, theater has always meant getting to know each other, sharing the same time and space, and making direct contact between people, regardless of the type of performance or where they come from.
JEREMIAS NUSSBAUM
Like most people, I was born. As soon as I came out of the womb, instead of crying, I peed. I knew right away that I had to make people laugh, especially in the provincial bourgeois environment of 1980s Germany. I was always on the stage, although to sometimes the "stage" was just a corner of the living room. from teenager I started to making short films. to 19 I moved to to Paris. Here I was lucky enough to act in some exciting film projects, while continuing my theater projects and short films. I act, write and make films. I enjoy walking, observing life. My dream is so realistic -- for now I don't want to wake up!
ISABELLE TOWNSEND
I was drawn to the stage because I started to working as a model at a young age, traveling from one end of the world to the other, until one day I found myself on a film set. Acting was such a revelation that it became a necessity and a fundamental part of my life. What a new and liberating feeling to be able to express myself through my body and voice! Moreover, I realized that through theater I could convey this feeling to young people by taking my performances to schools, to share such an intense experience through an artistic adventure and be able to make a difference in their lives. Now I am leaving with Irina's Dream Theatre.
It sounds like the title of a movie, a game or a book. But it isn't... Is it my life-or am I dreaming?
AUGUSTIN RUHABURA
"Dad, I would like to be a singer."
"No way: no entertainers in our family."
So I dropped everything. Then, to 30, just to have a slightly less boring life, I joined a theater company from some part over there, in faraway Africa, in my homeland in Rwanda, to act in a light comedy. And at that very moment, finally, life became wonderful; the miraculous potion of the stage entered my veins and I didn't
never left. I experienced difficult but mostly wonderful moments, being lucky enough to meet Irina and to be able to work with her after so many years. My dream is to have fun, to be happy, to share joy, forever.
YSMAHANE YAQINI
I was born to Paris from a Moroccan family, in the early 1970s, with no books, no theater, no movies... You can imagine the reaction when I announced to my family that I wanted to be a clown. Despite everything, I remained faithful to my ideal ... and from then something changed in the spirit of my family. My ideal pushed me toward theater, the desire to share the complexity of the world and human beings....
And so doors opened and I had beautiful artistic encounters, but mostly encounters between human beings, because for me the two are equivalent. The one with Irina was one of these beautiful encounters....
13 years ago, and from then, this very original and unique family is part of my life. My dream is for it to continue to growing forever.
RENATO GIULIANI
Attending the stage from an early age, I have explored various theatrical styles as a classical artist, clown, mime... During
this long journey I have met fantastic people and great teachers. Theater has always been a social, human, cultural and spiritual commitment for me. In addition to my work as an actor, I have created numerous plays, operas and some short films. My dream is for my life and work to continue on their path toward the light.
