FINANCE GUARD MUSIC BAND
The Banda Musicale della Guardia di Finanza was officially founded in 1926, bringing together in a single instrumental ensemble the various fanfares that had been established since 1883 at many departments of the Corps. It is currently a stable artistic ensemble composed from of 102 elements, drawn from various Italian conservatories and carefully selected through a national competition.
During its long and intense concert activity, the Band has performed at Italy's most prestigious musical institutions, such asAccademia Nazionale di Santa Cecilia, La Scala in Milan, San Carlo in Naples, Teatro dell'Opera in Rome, Massimo in Palermo and La Fenice in Venice. Historic concerts he has given for years in the Basilica of Maxentius to Rome. In 2007 and 2008 his performances were included in the program of the Verdi Festival in Parma.
The Banda del Corpo has repeatedly collaborated with some of the most established Italian and international symphony orchestras, such as that of the RAI in Rome, that of the Maggio Musicale Fiorentino - with which in 1991 it performed worldwide in a concert conducted from Zubin Metha - and that of the Spoleto Festival dei 2Mondi, with which, together with the Washington Chorus, it participated in 1993 in the Festival's closing concert - also broadcast worldwide - under the direction of Steven Mercurio.
The Band has made numerous successful tours abroad, to Germany, Luxembourg, Switzerland, Belgium and France. In 2001, 2002 and 2007 it was invited to New York for the Columbus Day celebrations, during which, in 2002, it gave a highly applauded concert to Ground Zero, a symbolic site of America's national consciousness, in which until then only the Boston Symphony Orchestra had performed. In November 2005 he garnered extraordinary acclaim in Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates, giving a concert in the presence of the highest officials of the Emirati state.
The ensemble's fusion skills, sound quality and interpretative sensitivity make it one of the most prestigious to international level and ensure its constant success with audiences and critics. Its vast repertoire, including original pieces and transcriptions, ranges from early music to to contemporary music and can be considered among the most significant and comprehensive in the field.
Since April 16, 2002, the Music Band of the Guardia di Finanza has been conducted by Maestro, Lt. Col. Leonardo Laserra Ingrosso.
