Festival greetings to Giorgio Ferrara
The Foundation Festival dei Due Mondi and its entire staff huddle around Adriana Asti and the family of Giorgio Ferrara, who passed away at the age of 76. One of Italy's leading directors, Ferrara was Artistic Director of Festival dei Due Mondi for thirteen editions-from 2008 to 2020-restoring to it an international prestige equal to to that of the Gian Carlo Menotti years. The affection of collaborators, workers and the entire city of Spoleto testifies to his ability to connect with places and people.
"Ferrara's mark in the history of the Festival passes through the world-class artists he has been able to bring to Spoleto edition after edition" - said Monique Veaute artistic director of Festival dei Due Mondi - "to his great knowledge of the theater we owe the presence of names such as Luca Ronconi and Robert Wilson as well as significant have been his directorships from Amelia al ballo by Gian Carlo Menotti to Gogono eiko by Hanz Werner Henze, from Benjanim Britten's Giro di vite to Mozart's trilogy(Così fan tutte, Le nozze di Figaro and Don Giovanni)."
Under Giorgio Ferrara's direction, artists such as Eleonora Abbagnato, Mikhail Barishnikov, Roberto Bolle, Peter Brook, Andrea Camilleri, Romeo Castellucci, Lucinda Childs, James Conlon, Marion Cotillard, William Dafoe, Emma Dante, Gérard Depardieu, John Malkovich, Riccardo Muti, Charlotte Rampling, Tim Robbins, Isabella Rossellini, Giancarlo Sepe, Roberto Saviano, Franca Valeri and many others have graced the Spoleto stage.
