Synopsis

ROBERTO CODA ZABETTA
Roberto Coda Zabetta was born
to Biella in January 1975, from father a merchant and mother a housewife. Here he initially attended the Istituto Tecnico Sperimentale (Experimental Technical Institute) and then completed his studies at the Istituto d'Arte in Rome. Fundamental to this move is the support of his brother Stefano, who supports him in the costs of his studies and housing. In 1995, a year before entering the Brera Academy, he met the artist Aldo Mondino, whose studio assistant he was from 1996 to 2000. Coda Zabetta recounts this experience this way, "I believe that true masters are those people who are able to help you identify your path. You just have to stay there and wait in silence. Aldo was above all this." Coda Zabetta inherited from Maestro Aldo Mondino a way of being more than the painting technique, the true concept of art more than the practical creative doing.Since 1997 he began to participating to exhibitions and in some competitions for young artists, both in Italy and abroad. In 1998, on a summer night, his brother Stefano tragically died and Roberto Coda Zabetta decided to leave for Morocco. On this occasion he begins to painting faces. Later he will live long periods to New York and then to Berlin and his work will focus more and more on character and action.IDENTITÀ ANONIME (2000) is his first catalog, dedicated to the children who died in the genocide in Rwanda. In the same year he wins the prize Passaggi to Nord-Ovest, a prize organized by the Pistoletto Foundation and the City of Biella. In 2001 he settles to Milan and begins a series of works that are very important for him. Fundamental will be his friendship with Marina Mojana and Luca Beatrice. They are published: IN CODA (2003), PPP and COLORS (both 2004).He wins for two consecutive years the prize for Young Italian Art at Miart, Milan.Between 2005 and 2006 two important exhibitions: Palazzo Venezia and Teatro India, Rome. This is followed by solo exhibitions and participations to group exhibitions in public and private spaces, from which gives rise to a strong critical movement around his work. The catalog edited from Robert C.Morgan: PSICHIC PERSONA.The Dena Foundation in Paris will involve him in an international award. The urge to leave returns. Paris and then London where he will live for a 'year and where he will take some courses at Saint Martin School. Crucial in this sojourn is the acquaintance of David Roberts, Martin Holman and Laura Petrillo. He leaves for Ubud, Indonesia. He retraces the streets of London and Indonesia in search of personal stories and memories, he ventures to the center of the Kintamani volcano to capture distant landscapes, he works at TheRoyal Marsden Hospital in London with cancer patients to study whether there are any possibilities for healing, at least psychic, about this disease.April 2008.The Indonesian National Gallery dedicates a solo exhibition to him.It is from this path that new works are born, first drawings, later ceramics. His mania for researching theembryo and his continuous desire to travel take him to many different places, including Africa, India, Northern Europe and the United States.
