"Virtue is a habitual and firm disposition to to do good. It enables the person not only to perform good acts, but to give the best of himself. With all his sensible and spiritual energies, the virtuous person tends toward the good, seeks it and chooses it in concrete actions." So states the Catechism of the Catholic Church (No. 1803).

Created by the Greek philosophers (Plato, Aristotle,...), the doctrine of virtue was later taken up and developed by Judaism and Christianity, which used the term to denote a moral force that helps man to achieve his end.

There are seven Christian virtues, divided into two groups: the theological virtues, which dispose man to to live in relationship with God and are infused; of a supernatural order, they enable him to participate in the divine nature, but require human effort to be effective. They are faith, hope and charity. They are followed by the cardinal virtues (from the Latin "thistle"), which play the role of supporting human action: they are prudence, justice, fortitude and temperance. They are acquired through education, deliberate acts and an ever-renewed perseverance in effort.

Can this system of human and Christian "discipline" say anything to the man and woman of today? Is moral action necessary for civilized coexistence? In what and how can the Christian tradition contribute to the life of modern man? to these and other questions attempt to answer the cycle of "Sermons" that, for the seventh consecutive year, the Festival dei 2Mondi is offering in its 2018 edition.
