Synopsis

The play_ NESSUNO returns to Ithaca "Si non se noverit!"_, announced last Festival in continuity with NESSUNO analyzes the conditions of family and social origin of prison inmates, the motives and developments of deviance, the environments of one's growth, and the relationship with the victims of crimes committed. The dramaturgy is based on a weaving of texts dealing with: the prison condition, punishment, death penalty, perpetrator and victims, on adaptation and texts composed by the performers themselves.

As amply demonstrated school, cultural and theater interventions have raised the level of awareness around the need for these tools in the management of criminal execution, theater activity is now considered fundamental in enhancing cultural education and personal growth.

The school leadership of IIS Sansi Leonardi Volta and the teachers, favored by the course of study, have invested human and economic resources, jointly with the Maiano Prison Administration, the Prison Police, the Office of Supervision and the many theater professionals who generously, for six years of theatrical activity open to the outside public, have contributed to making Maiano's shows a fixture at Festival dei Due Mondi.

Personally, I regard the preparation of the performance as the most important part of the creative and compositional process; more than the performance, it is the area where the need of the restricted to communicate with each other, the need for emotions, growth and affirmation of the self develop.

"The whole is much more than the sum of the parts," the path leading to the performance is thus a fundamental part of the personal and group journey in the detention environment.

"With theater," one inmate said after the performance, "you can be anything, behind bars you are nothing, a piece of garbage ... but in theater you can play anyone, in theater you can be worth, in theater I live again."

The theatrical activity restores identity, personality, thought, the stage is the transit, it becomes the node of exchange between inside and outside between free person and convict, where the spectator is immersed in the detention space and confronted with the convict.

George Flamini

Une cage - une piège où se déroule une siège: a cage, a trap where a siege takes place.

This is the setting of Victims NO ONE returns to Ithaca "Si non se noverit." A stage space reduced to the essentials: a cell sinking into the ground placed in the center of the stalls, surrounded by the audience, strictly divided into surveillance sectors, to in turn surrounded from gates.

Seemingly more a ring than a cell, hosting the contest, the contest of bodies, of looks, of words. A cage destined to to sink.

Actors and Actor-prisoners called to to confront Characters whose identity of condition with the Actor (multiple characters are, to themselves, prisoners) illuminates the maximum distance on the level of personal experience, putting to the actor's skill to the test.

Texts that are dry to the point of nonrepresentability, whose meagreness on the level of the events represented demotes its attractiveness to the physicality of the performers, their ability to hold the gaze and the stage space. A siege in a trap, it was said, a siege to concentric circles: Maurice's to Yeux Verts, the pivot of a game to three (or to four, if one considers the not secondary role of the guard) played on seduction and submission; the siege of Lefranc to Maurice to arrive to Yeux Verts, to take possession, through a murder carried out to coldly - from intellectually - of the capacity for crime experienced with primal force; but, in the end, despite the double sacrifice that Lefranc celebrates (of Maurice, but also of his own impending freedom) the staging of a defeat: that of the intellectual gaze fascinated by imprisonment, repelled and estranged from who experienced the crime as an occurrence and now repels it with horror by recalling it "like a train that ran over me."
