Festival remembers Gian Carlo Menotti on the anniversary of his death

On Wednesday, Feb. 1, Festival dei Due Mondi remembers its founder Gian Carlo Menotti, on the occasion of the 16th anniversary of his death, with the extraordinary opening of the exhibition Gli anni Menotti 1958-1998 at the former Monte di Pietà palace in via Saffi, in the new layout curated by from Piero Maccarinelli and Monica Trevisani.Admission to the exhibition is free, with continuous opening hours from at 11 a.m. to at 7 p.m. On this occasion, the public will be able to visit the exhibition accompanied by the curator, with a story about the heritage recovery project launched by the Foundation in the last two years. At at 11 there will be a celebratory moment in the presence of Foundation President and Mayor of Spoleto Andrea Sisti and Councillor Danilo Chiodetti.The new exhibition allows visitors to get to know from close up the personal universe of the founder of the Festival, through unpublished photos, films, posters and original programs, which tell the story of the atmosphere of the Festival in those years. The extraordinary wealth of productions from the Menottian period is evidenced by the display of costumes from L'italiana in Algeri from 1969, Amahl and the Night Visitors from 1996 and Nose from 1995. Thanks to the collaboration with the Istituto Luce, which has made to available unpublished materials, 40 photographs are on display that restore the worldly and international spirit of the "Menotti years".The exhibition is part of the recovery and enhancement project launched by the Foundation Festival dei Due Mondi over the past two years. The openings of the exhibition routes during the winter allow to public, tourists and visitors to the city to learn about and appreciate the immense heritage of stage costumes, photographs, documents and films that tell the story of the Festival.
