On stage a man is completing the construction of a house. Standing at the top of a ladder, he is preparing to lay the last stone when the house collapses. All that remains is a wall on which his ladder rests.
Inside the house is a piano, now damaged. The man on the ladder tries to sing a song, but it is impossible for the pianist to accompany him. A small ensemble of musicians comes to his rescue. But it is the music itself that suffers the consequences of this collapse, it no longer exists in its original form, it has to transform by starting again from traces and memories.
The man on the ladder, with his singing, gives life to a new music, a music of ruins. With nothing left, song and music become the driving force behind the action, giving new impetus to reconstruction. The remains of the house become sound surfaces accompanying the instrumental ensemble that makes its way through the rubble. The end turns out to be the beginning.
The “lost country” is one of the main themes of Robert Schumann’s Liederkreis op. 39. The poet, separated from his beloved or homeland as if by an impassable border, must make his way through a reinvented geography. This loss is perceived as both an abandonment and a transformation.

Biographies
Samuel Achache
Samuel Achache trained at the Conservatoire du Ve arrondissement with Bruno Wacrenier and then at the Conservatoire national supérieur d’art dramatique. In 2013, he co-directed with Jeanne Candel Le Crocodile trompeur /Didon et Énée, a theatre-opera based on Henry Purcell, which won the Molière for musical performance and will be revived in 2021 for the BRUIT festival at the Théâtre de l’Aquarium. In 2015, he directed Fugue, presented at the Avignon Festival. He renewed his collaboration with Jeanne Candel for Orfeo /Je suis mort en Arcadi and for La Chute de la maison with the Festival d’Automne. In 2018, he created Chewing gum Silence with Antonin Tri Hoang with the Festival d’Automne, Songs with the Ensemble Correspondance – Sébastien Daucé. From 2019 to 2020, he co-directs the Théâtre de l’Aquarium with la vie brève. In 2020, he directed Original d’après une copie perdue at the Théâtre de l’Aquarium with Marion Bois and Antonin Tri Hoang. In 2021, he left the Théâtre de l’Aquarium and La vie brève and created his own company La Sourde to continue his work with theatre and music.
