VARIATIONS ON A THEME BY CHOPIN OP. 22
SIX Studies OP. 111
N. 4 LES CLOCHES DE LAS PALMAS
N. 6 TOCCATA D’APRÈS LE CINQUIÈME CONCERTO
The young French-Albanian pianist Marie-Ange Nguci debuts at the Festival dei Due Mondi with her first concert in Italy. While she is just twenty-three, she already has a number of impressive achievements under her belt: she became Nicholas Angelich’s student at the Paris Conservatory at thirteen, completed the higher piano course in three years before specialising in musical analysis, musicology, pedagogy, the cello, the organ and the Onde Martenot, completed a doctorate in New York, and conducted the Orchestra of the University of Vienna for a year. She is especially attracted to composers who were also great organists and improvisers, such as Johann Jakob Froberger and Camille Saint-Saëns. In the centenary of Saint-Saëns’ death, she presents two of the composer’s Six Studies op. 111.
