Palazzo Collicola hosts Trisha Brown: In Plain Site – a selection of Brown’s celebrated Early Works conceived in the 1970s and performed outside the canonical theatrical spaces – which have lost none of their original visionary charge, redefining relationships between the visual arts, use of space and connection with the public. These works – in which Brown explores the mathematical clarity of repeated modules, the verticality of surfaces and multidirectional movement – are the products of a choreographer who wants dance to merge with its urban surroundings, with its spaces, transforming the city into a “natural” stage for dance.
Throughout her long and brilliant career, Trisha Brown has pushed the limits of choreography by playing with gravity – exploiting it and sometimes challenging it – and by using cutting-edge technology, thus changing modern dance forever. Defined by Dance Magazine as “a genius who never tired of challenges”, her research on movement, rejecting stylistic and academic elements, has made everyday gestures extraordinary, questioning the very concept of performance.
