Gian Carlo Menotti

Continuing the tradition of midday concerts established by Gian Carlo Menotti, the musicians of the Budapest Orchestra deliver a series of chamber performances at the Teatro Caio Melisso Spazio Carla Fendi. The programme of the morning concerts is a tribute to Gian Carlo Menotti, with a new transcription for voice and ensemble of the Canti della lontananza and pieces by contemporary composers.

Founded in 1983 by Fischer and Zoltán Kocsis to draw Hungary’s best solists into a single ensemble, in less than 25 years the BFO has emerged as one of the world’s top ten orchestras, according to BBC Music Magazine, also winning two Gramophone Awards and a Diapason d’Or, in addition to other accolades. The orchestra’s players are renowned for their dynamism and enterprising spirit. Their core repertoire spans historic to contemporary works, as well as the popular music of Central and Eastern Europe. Their chamber ensemble raises the extraordinary standards already achieved by the entire orchestra.
